1. I am short, really short. 4′9″
2. I grew up the daughter of academics.
3. My mother has her PhD from a college of education as well, Ed. Research to be specific.
4. I’m following in her footsteps, only a different field.
5. Don’t be surprised if I end up in administration, like her.
6. I’ve lived in 1/10 of the states in the US: Virginia, NC, Ga, Ore., Utah.
7. Oregon is by far my favourite.
8. I was in Blacksburg the day before the Va Tech shootings.
9. Yes, I grew up at Va Tech.
10. My stepfather was on the 3rd floor of the building they occured in. He could hear them.
11. My family is very blessed – we didn’t have to have a funeral because of the Va Tech shootings.
12. I believe we need more compassion in the world.
13. I believe that with more compassion fewer things like the Va Tech shootings would happen.
14. I’m making a commitment to living a life of non-violence. I am still defining what that means.
15. I have 2 very codependent cats.
16. I tried out for the 1992 Olympics.
17. I nearly flunked 9th grade.
18. I got out of high school with a 2.0 gpa.
19. I am a PhD student at a top 5 institution in my field now, and I am succeeding.
20. The lesson I know: don’t ever underestimate someone. Always believe in them.
21. I have been an activist for a very long time.
22. My first computer was an Apple II+ when I was nine.
23. After my first computer, I didn’t go back to Mac until the iBook came out. Mine died after 6 months and I swore I’d never go back to mac.
24. I did go back to Mac – I bought a MacBook when I realized my Dell was too big to lug around PhD school.
25. I am now a Mac Devotee and plan to never buy another PC laptop ever again.
26. The iBook that died? I gave it to a friend, who called Apple – there was a recall on it. My friend Kas now has that iBook and happily is using it.
27. One of the first things I did when I got this very white MacBook was to buy stickers to decorate it.
28. Everyone knows which computer is mine because of the flowers all over it.
29. I am a social justice nerd (SJN).
30. One of my favourite places in the world is an intentional community outside of Eugene, Ore.
31. Yes, it’s also known as a commune.
32. I would like to live in an intentional community once I land some place permanent again.
33. Eugene will always be my home.
34. I think I would also enjoy living in Madison, WI, Boulder, Co, or Ann Arbor, MI.
35. Most of all I would love to live in Vancouver, BC.
36. I would like to live someplace with universal healthcare and legalized gay marriage.
37. I’ve been searching for God for a long, long time.
38. Sometimes I think I’ve found Him. Other times I don’t.
39. How many people can say they were at the same wedding as Lewis Black (yes, the comedian)?
40. I’d rather have another claim to fame – like I’ve been a great scholar or activist.
41. I’d like to be a great scholar who has learned to properly research oppressed populations.
42. I’ve realized I’m a critical quantitative researcher.
43. No, I don’t like qualitative research very much. I love the puzzle that quant is.
44. My oldest friend is a woman I’ve never met face to face.
45. She and I became penpals when we were – 12 or 13. I think in many ways our lives have paralleled each other, in other ways they haven’t.
46. She is truly an amazing person, one of the most amazing and powerful women that has ever graced my life. I’m not sure if I’ve ever told her that – maybe I should.
47. I used to be Mormon. I joined the LDS church in 2006 after having an amazing experience of God there. But it was hard as a Social Justice Nerd.
48. Then I went on a delegation to Palestine with the Christian Peacemaker Teams (CPT) to Palestine and found that I could have amazing experiences of God within other Christian foundations, while being fully accepted as an SJN.
49. So I left the LDS church for more SJN accepting pastures within Christianity.  I’m currently attending a Presbyterian Church.
50. I have tinnitus, not an extreme case though.
51. I developed tinnitus because I spent many hours a day, while working towards my masters degree, listening to music – LOUD, with headphones.
52.  I joined the Presbyterian (PCUSA) church. i like everything I’ve read about the denomination and there is definitely room for a social justice nerd like myself within it.
53. In the end, though, I don’t think that God cares which church I join. My view is that he just cares that I continue to seek him out, and although I don’t think I’m great at seeking him out my current pastor says that the fact that I walk into church every week means that I am.
54. I was baptized Presbyterian by my pastor on 11 Jan 09.  As a moment it was terribly meaningful to me.  I know I did the right thing.
55. My dad died when I was 37. He died April 24, 2010 of prostate cancer. It will probably feel unreal for the rest of my life that he is gone.
56. My dad truly mean the world to me.
57. I planted my first garden ever in the summer of 2010. It produced bitter cucumbers and a wild rumpus of tomatoes.
58. My dad, his parents, and my grandmother’s parents are all buried at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Newport, RI. It’s on a little island by the sea, a perfect resting place for his ashes, and my grandparents’ ashes for that matter.
